Hi Anne-Marie,
Pleased to hear you've got a date for your op, and agree the depression will get better once you're not in so much pain.
love

Thank you again to all, i am due to attend the pre-opp next Friday, i have a wicked cold right now, i am hoping this clears quick, i was due to go out with a couple of work friends as one is leaving, but had to say no, i was not feeling able to go RE:depression but i was going to take a step towards what may feel like normal life, I just want to be ME again.
The guy who is leaving is selling up and leaving the area, he said that he would take me to lunch b4 he goes, he is a nice and thoughtful guy, i will miss him at work, if i ever go back? Wishing you all well Anne-Marie xx

i have just received a call from the waiting office at the Luton & Dunstable hospital to say that the operation i have waited so long for (due on Monday) has been cancelled, i am so upset,i was told it was due to an emergency,? i have been off work 2mths and i have also used 2wks A/L with pain/Depression, all due to this wretched Disease, my poor hubby has booked 1 week of work, i dont know if they will allow him to cancel, i am unable to get an appointment with gp until next Wednesday. i was told it would be b4 the end of March now, this will keep it within the 18wks, this is my second time round nearly for the 18 wk promise, i I wish i could afford to go private. So sorry all i needed to get this off my chest, better go i did book a private rm and i need to cancel it. Anne-m xxx

It's not only frustrating but also stressful when this happens, especially when you have made all the arrangements.
I don't know what else to say, but I can send you a huge, huge, hug

OH poor Ann-Marie! How distressing and disheartening!
Hoping and praying you'll have the operation very soon.
Try and rest as the stress and anxiety won't be good for the RA...
A glass of the red stuff may help....
Love,
Amanda

Hi Anne-Marie, Can fully appreciate how frustrated and disappointed you must feel. Chin-up my lovely, March is only around the corner. Will toast you and others tonight, I think after today we're all in need of a drink . I too am having a roller coaster of a time with my mood and don't know whether I'm coming or going. I think that depression and RA go hand-in-hand especially in the first year of diagnosis and believe more needs to be done about recognising the impact of RA on our emotional, psychological and mental well-being. When they say that RA is a systemic disease they're not joking are they.... Gentle cyber hug, love, Barbara XXXXXX

Anne Marie, I do know exactly how you feel only it was cancelled for different reasons ( my surgeon had an accident ) .. The thing is you build yourself up, get all prepared only to be told it's cancelled. Never mind you now have a new date and I'm sure that will definately go ahead. Good luck with it and feel free to contact me if you need to. As you know I am 2 weeks post op from my hind foot fusion. Take care Kelly xxxx

Hi Kelly, Its so good to hear how well you are getting on with your crutches i found it difficult last time, my fingers were painful when the pressure was put on them,. you are so right about getting ready for the opp, i had even pre warned little G/daughter in case she became worried re cast, lol lol I do not have a set date right now, i was just told it would be b4 end off March? it is difficult as i had a lot of hospital appointments hand therapy/physio/rheumy etc come through around the time of the opp which i then changed to March time i will now have to change them again, never mind. Can you manage the stairs ok? did you need some one to help you at home for a few days? i am not sure how i will cope. your opp sounds more complex than mine. How is the pain now? when you say hind foot is that your ankle? sorry about all the questions. keep up the good rate of recovery write soon. Anne-m xxx

Hi Anne-M
Regarding the stairs. They did show me and I did manage to do the stairs with crutches at the hospital before they would allow me to come home. Unfortunately when I got home I found it quite difficult ( I'm sure I could if I persisted ) I now go up on my bottom. I find it so much easier to get down than to go up. I've had friends and family who have been brilliant. My partner is now back at work ( self employed ) and I do manage okay. He gets things ready for me in the morning before he goes so it's not too bad. In all honesty I'm finding I can do things alot easier than I imagined. I do miss driving though and just going out to take the dogs for a walk. But in the grander scheme of things having this cast on for a few weeks/months is going to be well worth it..
The pain is not too bad at all. I'm now only taking them twice a day whereas before it was 4 times. Again I imagined the pain to be much worse. I had a triple fusion in my hind foot, the achilles tendon was streghtened, straightened and they did a bone graft. There is a piece of information about this op somewhere on this website I believe. I'm feeling really positive and can't wait to get on with my life again.
I wish you the very best with your op too and I really don't mind what questions you ask - I was exactly the same as you! Love Kelly xx

Hello Kelly, i have just written a long post to you, and then i lost it. so i will have to send a short version as fingers bit painful, Thank you for you fast response, you are quite right about managing, i was thinking about last opp i had, Colin would make up a flask and leave it in the living room as i could not hop with a hot drink. I think my main problem is that we only have 1 toilet and this is down stairs, which is a pain at the best of time as i have a tendency to visit the loo in the small hrs, but Colin said not to worry as he would buy me a LARGE POTTY (blooming cheek... or two) lol. I am happy to hear that your pain has decreased and you are on less pain killers, i hope i do as well as you! When i had the pre opp the nurse said that the surgeon doing my opp, doesn't put you in plaster straight away, so i will have to be extra careful that i do not knock the ankle, seems a bit odd to me, i suppose they all have there own way. well i am off now, you take good care of yourself, take it easy and chill. I dont drive so i wont miss the driving, Colin is my driver! when will you be able to drive again? i suppose you will just have to wait and see. Anne-m xxx nice to see you have a positive out look. hope i will be there soon xx
